Environmental Excellence Award Submission

DEFINED REPORTING SCOPE:

Please identify the reporting scope included in the submission, such as the full portfolio, residential portfolio, or another defined subset. You must include:

• Portfolio boundary included in the submission
• Number of buildings and units included
• Whether the data reflects landlord-controlled, resident-controlled, or whole-building utilities
• Any major exclusions or limitations in the data, if applicable

SUBMISSIONS WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON:

• Demonstrated, measurable environmental performance.
• Quality, completeness, and credibility of supporting data.
• Effective implementation of sustainability initiatives.
• Resident engagement and behaviour change.
• Leadership demonstrated through innovation, scalability, and sector contribution.

The following questions must be answered in your submission. Winners and nominees will be determined based on this information.

1. Strategy, Governance & Targets (150 words maximum)

Provide your organization’s environmental strategy and outline how it is integrated into operations. Include any measurable targets, such as energy, water, waste, or emissions, who is responsible for oversight, and how progress is tracked.

2. Implementation & Capital or Operational Programs (500 words maximum)

Describe the initiatives your organization has implemented to improve environmental performance. Include: Operational improvements, Capital investments, Program rollouts, Measurable outcomes. Focus on execution and impact.

3. Environmental Performance & Data Credibility (500 words maximum):

Outline your organization’s environmental performance across at least two of the following areas:

• Energy consumption
• Water usage
• Waste generation and diversion
• Greenhouse gas emissions

For each performance area included, please provide: Baseline year, Reporting year, Percentage improvement or change, Absolute values, Normalized metrics, such as per unit or per square foot, Key drivers of performance.

Responses should reflect portfolio-wide performance where possible. Submissions that include more comprehensive data across multiple performance areas may be scored more highly. Submissions without baseline data, clear reporting periods, or supporting evidence may receive lower scores.

4. Monitoring & Data Management (250 words maximum):

Describe how your organization tracks and manages environmental performance. Include:

• Systems or tools used
• Data collection and verification processes
• Frequency of monitoring and reporting

5. Resident Engagement & Behaviour Change (250 words maximum):

Describe how residents are engaged in sustainability initiatives. Include:

• Programs or campaigns implemented
• Participation levels, if available
• Evidence of behaviour change or impact on environmental performance

6. Leadership & Sector Contribution (350 words maximum):

Describe how your organization demonstrates leadership in environmental performance. Include:

• Innovation in approach or implementation
• Scalability of initiatives across your portfolio
• External validation, certifications, or recognition, if applicable
• Practices that could be adopted by other housing providers

REQUIRED SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION & SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS:

All claims should be supported by relevant documentation, where available, such as utility data exports or reports, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager outputs, internal tracking reports, before-and-after comparisons, project summaries, program participation data, and resident communications or engagement materials.

Please include a minimum of 8 high-resolution visuals that support your submission, such as photos, graphs, infographics, or promotional and educational materials. All submissions must also include a high-resolution company logo (.eps, .ai, .psd, or .png). Should your submission be nominated as a finalist, these materials may be used in the awards presentation and promotional activities.
